Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy

Using IPL technology, we deliver a precise amount of light energy to the skin, which means that collagen production is stimulated while causing blood vessels under the skin to contract. This is a treatment that is used to treat a variety of benign skin conditions, such as photo damage, broken capillaries, pigmentation, or other blemishes. Our staff are trained in the most advanced systems for IPL Rejuvenation.

Services start at $299 and vary depending on number of treatment areas.

How does IPL Skin Rejuvenation work?

IPL treatments use targeted Intense Pulse Lights that are specifically designed to rejuvenate and address common skin imperfections. When this light is delivered to the skin, it is absorbed by pigmentation and small vessels, which are heated to the point of destruction. During this treatment, the skin’s collagen and elastin production process is also ignited for firmer skin and a reduced pore size.

What are the benefits of IPL Skin Rejuvenation?

Our IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatments can effectively combat a number of skin concerns including:

  • Freckles, sunspots and unwanted pigmentation
  • Acne (the light works to destroy acne-causing bacteria)
  • Unwanted redness and broken capillaries
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Pore size

What happens during my treatment?

All R&D Aesthetics skin treatments begin with a comprehensive consultation where you’ll share your medical history, background and treatment goals. Together, we’ll formulate a treatment plan to achieve your objectives, which may include other treatments and skincare.

To begin your IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatment, a cool gel is applied to the treatment area and protective eyewear is placed over your eyes. Your clinician will apply the IPL handpiece to your skin where you’ll experience bright flashes of light. This will continue until the entire treatment area has been covered. Once your concern has been sufficiently treated, your clinician will remove the excess gel and apply protective SPF.

Generally, IPL Skin Rejuvenation takes 30 minutes to complete depending on the number of areas being treated.

Frequently asked questions

Cosmetic injectables can be a safe and effective way to improve your appearance. However, it is important to choose a qualified practitioner and to understand the risks and benefits of the procedure before making a decision.

HIDDEN
What are cosmetic injectables?

Cosmetic injectables are minimally invasive procedures that use injectable substances to improve the appearance. They are a popular choice for people who want to reduce wrinkles, lines, and folds, as well as plump up lips and cheeks.

Types of cosmetic injectables

Botulinum toxin (Botox, Dysport): This relaxes muscles to reduce wrinkles and lines, such as frown lines and crow’s feet.

Dermal fillers: These add volume to the skin to smooth out wrinkles and lines, as well as plump up lips and cheeks. Common types of dermal fillers include hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) fillers, and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) fillers.

Neuromodulators: These are similar to botulinum toxin, but they have a shorter duration of action and may be less effective for deep wrinkles.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP): This uses a patient’s own blood to promote collagen production and improve skin texture.

What are important considerations for nurses who perform cosmetic injectables?

Nurses who perform cosmetic injectables should be highly trained and understand facial anatomy, ageing, and the different products available. They should also be aware of how much product to use and where to inject it. It is important to note that cosmetic injectables are not a one-size-fits-all treatment, and nurses should tailor their treatment plans to each individual patient.

What are the additional guidelines for nurses?

Informed consent: Nurses must obtain informed consent from all patients before performing any cosmetic injectable procedure. This means that patients must understand the risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as the alternatives.

Pre-treatment assessment: Nurses should conduct a thorough pre-treatment assessment of all patients to ensure that they are suitable candidates for the procedure. This assessment should include a review of the patient’s medical history, current medications, and allergies.

Treatment planning: Nurses should develop a personalized treatment plan for each patient based on their individual needs and goals.

Sterile technique: Nurses must use sterile technique when performing all cosmetic injectable procedures.

Post-treatment care: Nurses should provide patients with post-treatment care instructions, including how to care for the treated area and what to watch out for.

How do I choose a qualified practitioner?

It is important to choose a qualified and experienced practitioner to perform your cosmetic injectable procedure. Look for a practitioner who is:

  • Registered nurse with a qualification in cosmetic injectables
  • A member of a professional organization, such as the Australian Society of Aesthetic Nurses (ASAN)
  • Has experience in performing the type of procedure you are interested in
  • Has a good reputation
What would make me unsuitable for this kind of procedure?
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If we believe the patient are not ready or suitable for treatment
  • Those with an active infection at the injection site
  • These treatments are only available to those 18 years and above.

Please note that multiple treatments may be needed to achieve desired result. Individual results vary.

What can I expect during my appointment?
A very fine needle is used to address fine lines and wrinkles. Redness and minimal swelling will be present post treatment and bruising is unlikely it can still occur. No anaesthesia is required for this quick treatment.
What instructions should I follow for post-care after my appointment?
  • DO NOT lay down for 4 hours post treatment.
  • No rubbing, touching or massaging the treatment area for 4 hours post treatment.
  • Paracetamol can be taken for mild discomfort, please do not take Nurofen, Aspirin or blood thinning anti-inflammatories.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours post treatment.
  • No exercising for 24 hours post treatment.
  • Please allow two weeks for the treatment to be at full effect before having a review if needed.
  • No extreme heat for 2 weeks post treatment.
  • Please avoid any other treatments such as face massages, microdermabrasions, chemical peels or waxing for two weeks post treatment.
Do I need to avoid sun exposure prior to my IPL treatment?

Clients should avoid sun exposure in the four weeks leading up to treatment. Be sure to cover up with long sleeves and a hat as well as a suitable sunscreen to protect from the sun’s UV rays.

What can be treated with IPL?

IPL can be used to target a number of skin concerns, however, we only use this device for the following as we have other devices which work better for other conditions:

• SHR (Super Hair Removal) – Although we have a laser machine, SHR is great for those who are wanting large areas done such as full legs or back. The treatment is much faster than laser and just as effective. SHR is also great for those who do not tolerate pain well as this treatment is pain free and you will just feel a warm heating of the skin.

• Vascular & Rosacea – Vascular conditions such as red veins can be treated quickly with IPL, flushing from Rosacea can also be managed and reduced.

• Acne Management – Active acne can be quite hard to treat. Often having active acne rules a lot of treatments out, which is why IPL is a great choice. The IPL helps kill bacteria in the skin causing lesions to heal and it also has a healing effect on the overall skin, so it will reduce acne scarring.

• Rejuvenation – There’s nothing quite like IPL for rejuvenation. With minimal downtime, this treatment is fantastic for anyone who wants full face rejuvenation without the price tag of expensive laser treatments and the downtime associated with them.
